About

How it works

Christian Events brings together public information about Christian life across Stockholm County, from Norrtälje and the archipelago to Södertälje and Nynäshamn, and in Västerås: Masses and services in many languages, confession times, Bible studies, youth and young-adult groups, concerts, Lucia, pilgrimages and much more. It covers Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant churches alike.

Where the information comes from

Every night a program visits the churches' own websites and calendars. It reads the Church of Sweden's calendar service, the Catholic diocese's Mass listings, parish websites, calendar feeds and newsletters, including PDFs and scanned notices, which it reads with text recognition (OCR).

No artificial intelligence is involved. Every rule that reads a date, a time or a language was written by hand, and every event links back to the page it came from.

When a church has no online calendar

Many communities, especially Orthodox and migrant churches, only publish on Facebook or by word of mouth. For them we keep their regular schedule by hand and mark it “Regular schedule — check with the parish”. You can help by sending us a schedule or a correction.

Translation

Titles are translated into English with a dictionary of church terms, so “Högmässa” is always “High Mass”. Anything else goes through a machine translation service, and those texts are marked “machine-translated”. You can always see the original wording.

Find a church like yours

The traditions map compares how churches worship: liturgy, sacraments, music, language and more. It's meant to help you find a place where you feel at home. It isn't a judgement about which church is right.

Please double-check

Churches change times for feast days, holidays and summer. We update every day, but please check with the church before you travel far. If your church does not want to be listed, write to us and we will remove it.
